JOHNSTON COUNTY, OK - A proposed sales tax increase to help fund firefighting operations in Johnston County goes to the voters on Nov. 6.
If it's passed, the quarter of a cent sales tax would go toward equipment, fuel and training expenses.
There are eleven different fire departments in Johnston County.
The President of the Johnston County Firefighter Association Floyd Ross said each department gets $6,000 per year, which is only $500 a month.
Ross said unfortunately that amount doesn't allow them to buy the most up-to-date equipment.
"If they want to have a good service where we can stay up-to-date then we have to have funding," Ross said.
Ross said if it passes, for every $100 spent, sales tax would increase by 25 cents.
