SHERMAN, TX - An armed robbery suspect is in custody tonight after he holed up in a sherman apartment Friday afternoon. Residents had to be evacuated and police locked down the complex.
"They told me that the whole place was on lock down," said Deja Washington, Diamond Place resident.
Washington was one of dozens of residents asked to evacuate Diamond Place Apartments Friday afternoon as area law enforcement surrounded the complex closing in on armed robbery suspect Quentin Holmes.
"Due to the violent nature of the offense and the suspect being armed with a weapon, every precaution is being taken to take the suspect into custody," said Sgt. Bruce Dawsey, Sherman P.D.
Police say Holmes is one of two men who pistol whipped and robbed another man of prescription medication Thursday afternoon. Investigators say evidence led them to Diamond Place where they found Holmes hiding out in one of the units with another man. They attempted to coax him out over the P.A., but he wouldn't respond.
The whole ordeal had washington and her neighbors on edge.
"I am fearful for my family," said Washington, "and I just want everyone to be kept safe and for this to be over."
After about four hours of negotiating, Sherman Police, with the help of The Texas DPS Special Response Team, were able to convince Holmes to peacefully surrender just before 6 friday evening.
"Fortunately no force was necessary to apprehend the suspect and it ended peacefully," Dawsey said.
It's not known if Holmes had a gun when he surrendered. He was arrested and booked into the Grayson County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery.
