SHERMAN, TX -- Community leaders welcomed dozens of new Sherman teachers at a luncheon Friday.
The municipal ballroom was packed with educators and business owners this afternoon for the 7th annual New Teacher Luncheon.
It was hosted by the Sherman Chamber of Commerce.
This year, 72 new teachers and a new principal join Sherman ISD.
Sherman Mayor, Cary Wacker, was the keynote speaker.
Mayor Wacker said, "We're really passionate about education and we believe that the students today will own the businesses in the future...so we're really passionate about the teachers and getting them to mingle with the businesses so we can accomplish things much better."
Each new teacher received a goody bag and door prizes all donated and sponsored by members of the Sherman chamber.
