SHERMAN, TX -- As part of national service recognition day Sherman Mayor Cary Wacker honored some important volunteers Tuesday morning.
These Foster Grandparents were recognized at Fred Douglas Early Childhood Center for the difference they make in the lives of area children.
Each one of the 42 foster grandparents is assigned a child to mentor and they volunteer to teach and spend time with the kids in the early stages of their lives.
Barbara Luper, a member of the Foster Grandparents program, says "To help small children you know with their letters and their numbers, shapes, symbols that type of thing..and to tell them how much you care about them"
The day is meant to recognize the positive impact volunteers have on our communities.
