SHERMAN, TX -- Captain Dan Shaw was a Sherman firefighter for 38 years and also served in the military. He died Tuesday, July 3. Today, his family, fellow firefighters and friends celebrated his life.
In honor of Captain Shaw's service to the city, and also to his country a flag was raised. As part of the tribute, on the way to the gravesite, the procession traveled under the flag that was hung from fire truck's cross ladders.
Friday night, we spoke with the Sherman Fire Chief who said Captain Shaw would have honored anyone else just the same.
Family members say they were in complete awe and thankful for the tribute.
"Captain Shaw believed in tradition and was a true patriot and this is the very least we could do to honor such a brave, brave man, a dear friend and a brother," Sherman Fire Chief Jeff Jones said.
"I was so saddened to see him today at the services, but when I came out and saw this, I was blown away. Thank you, Sherman. Thank you," said Angela Shaw.
Funeral honors were performed at the gravesite by the Sherman Fire Department Honor Guard.
