GORDONVILLE, TX - A suicidal man who got into a shootout with sheriff's deputies at his home near Lake Texoma early Friday morning was found dead inside around 10 a.m.

According to Sgt. Rickey Wheeler of the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, they got a call around 1 a.m. from a woman worried about her father. When deputies arrived at the home about a half-mile from the Sherwood Shores Chapel, 62-year-old Edward Patrick Underwood appeared to reach for a weapon and the deputies retreated.

Underwood went to the second story of the house, and shots were fired. Wheeler said gunfire was exchanged, but no deputies were injured. Deputies then waited roughly ten hours for Underwood to emerge from the home until around 10 a.m. when a Texas DPS SWAT officer went inside the home and discovered him dead.

Some neighbors were asked to evacuate their homes and wait at local churches during the standoff.

It is unknown at this time how Underwood died.
