SHERMAN, TX - Teens searching for jobs this summer are in business. Texoma Workforce Solutions says the market is looking good for job seekers.
"It's a learning experience, have a good a work ethic, show up on time, and this just to be busy, earn your pay so to speak." said Jennifer Schwichtenberg.
The Denison Boys and Girls Club says they hire teens every summer.
"There's a lot of opportunity within Boys and Girls Club all over the nation, so it's a good place to start." said Schwichtenberg.
Program directors say it's a domino effect of mentoring.
The young employees get on the job training, and the kids relate well to the teens.
"The kids have someone to look up to, an older roll model, that's not too far advanced in age beyond them." Schwichtenberg said.
Janie Bates says the main thing they tell teenage job seekers at Texoma Workforce, is to show up to interviews on time dressed appropriately.
"You know shirt and long pants, no shorts and flip flops, those aren't going to work." said Bates.
Bates says there should be plenty of service and seasonal job options this summer, since the local economy is looking good.
"When the economy is bad, and you can hire an adult in place of a teenager, many companies will hire an adult because of the work experience that they already have, so when the economy is good, there's usually more jobs for the teenagers." Bates said.
For those having trouble landing a great summer job, Bates says you can always get creative.
"Teenagers can always be entrepreneurial, to go out and mow the lawns or throw the newspapers, or walk the dogs, or whatever somebody might have, babysitting." said Bates.
