GRAYSON & BRYAN COUNTIES-- If 90 percent of success is just showing up, international student Kekeli Akibode has a more challenging road to success.

"I'm from a West African country, Togo. This is my fourth year. I started at Grayson and my major is biotechnology," Kekeli Akibode said.

Kekeli just completed some classes at Grayson College. Now, she's going to SOSU to get her degree.

Only problem is, she still lives in Sherman.

When she heard about the new TAPS Go Red River Storm Route that takes Southeastern students to class from the other side of the Red River, she was relieved.

"I will plan so I can take the TAPS and come to school on time because it's very necessary," Kekeli said.

TAPS CEO Brad Underwood says he's heard that same sentiment echoed by other student riders.

"We've already seen people getting on the bus already today who've told us many times, 'I wouldn't be going to school today if it wasn't for this route!'" Underwood said.

The SOSU route is just one of TAPS's new Red River Routes.

In the next few weeks, there will be a Grayson College Vikings Route and an Austin College Roo Route, each designed to take students to class from across the Texas/Oklahoma border.

"This is phase one of the project. Phase two of the project begins on September the 17th with the Red River Route. And that's going to be when we go from Grayson County, all the way to Choctaw Casino," Underwood said.

These routes cost a dollar each way, or passengers can buy a monthly pass for $20 dollars.

"It would be much more convenient and cheaper for you to take TAPS if it was only a dollar a day," SOSU student Cheyenne Nichols said.

Underwood says Texomans need these routes and he's glad they're getting up and running.

"Huge transportation solution for our area," Underwood said.
