TOM BEAN, TX -- Tom Bean Police Chief John Hunt is retiring, again and Reserve Officer Frank Deater will take over as chief.

When Chief Hunt retired from the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement he became a reserve officer in Tom Bean.

He says he took over as chief to straighten up a broken department after the former chief Michael Webster resigned after an investigation into his conduct.

Webster was arrested a few months later for selling guns from evidence.

Hunt says he took the job because Tom Bean is his home and he wanted to help.

Hunt said, "I feel comfortable with the officers I feel comfortable with the attitude of the citizens toward the police department, and I'm really confident with the man who's going to take my place. So that's why I decided I would go ahead and go back into retirement."

According to Mayor Sherry Howard's Facebook page the council approved Frank Deater to become the new chief effective March 21st.
