SHERMAN, TEXAS -- Nearly 250 volunteers are going to be out in Sherman for the next few days, giving back to the community.

Great Days of Service volunteers are going to be working hard on a number of projects this year. Tuesday night, volunteers from the Service Academy for Youth got together to kick off the neighborhood revitalization project that starts tomorrow and runs through Friday.

Volunteers will be scraping and painting homes in the 900 to 1400 blocks of Chaffin Street. They will also paint numbers on curbsides to help emergency officials locate homes. The volunteers will also deliver meals with Meals on Wheels.

Great Days of Service began in 1996 and strives to help the community in any way.

"Well, we want to show other people that we care about them, and that we care about our community that we live in. We also want to teach our students how to give back to others and to become leaders in their community," said Great Days of Service Director, Sandy Garbacik.

Volunteers will work 8 a.m. to noon, Wednesday through Friday. It isn't too late to volunteer.
