GRAYSON COUNTY, TEXAS -- Whitesboro resident, engineer and business consultant Jim Maddock and former Sherman mayor and real estate developer Bill Magers filed Tuesday to run for Grayson County Judge.

Maddock's platform is focused on re-vamping county operations.

"It is a business, whether we want to admit that or not. Help it be as efficient and effective as we can, and to do those things at minimal cost to the taxpayer," Maddock said.

Maddock says as judge, he would bring county employees together to hear their concerns and solve problems.

He's also focused on growing the economy by lowering the tax rate, making it more competitive with the tax rate in neighboring counties.

"We're not making any movement to bend the tax rate curve to enable our growth," Maddock said.

Magers is focused on utilizing the County's assets for economic gain.

"We have got to start thinking of ourselves as a county. It's not Sherman, it's not Denison, it's not the lake area. The growth is going to manage us, or we're going to need to manage the growth," Magers said.

Magers has been endorsed by current county Judge Drue Bynum and Grayson County Sheriff Keith Gary.

He says he has the background to lead the county.

"I've got a history of focusing on those basic government necessities: roads, water and infrastructure. Those are the things that businesses look for when they relocate," Magers said.

Magers says hundreds of thousands of people move through Grayson County and the county judge should help lead to capitalize on that market.

Candidates have until December 9th to file for the March election.

Current County Judge Drue Bynum says he is not running for re-election.
