ARDMORE, OK - Ardmore police say what was first thought to be a suicide is now being investigated as a murder, and the victim's wife is in custody.

On Saturday night police found 51-year-old Vernon Love dead on the floor of his home in the 1500 block of West Main from a single gunshot wound. Initially police thought Love took his own life, but yesterday his wife, 39-year-old Lavonda Sue Pinnick, was arrested for murder.

"The initial report led us to believe this was a suicide, that this was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. However things just didn't add up for our investigators, and we go over these things very carefully, and they were able to make a case for homicide," Sgt. Ryan Hunnicutt of the Ardmore Police Department said.

Pinnick was already in custody. She was arrested Friday for drug and weapon possession. Police believe the couple had an argument earlier in the day that led to the fatal shooting.

Formal charges are pending.
