TOM BEAN, Tex. -- Eighty-five-percent of what is thrown away is recyclable. One Grayson County city is the first to introduce a new recycling program to help reduce that number.
The city of Tom Bean is the first ever in Grayson County to start what is called “the Blue Bag Program,” and city officials say it has been a huge success.
Tom Bean had a pilot program earlier this year to see the response the recycling would get. Shortly afterward in May, the city council approved to continue the Blue Bag Program, and organizer Cathy Pew says she has seen a tremendous response, getting 130 bags in just one month.
Pew says everyone in the community has been great with helping out.
“The citizens are concerned about the environment and wanting to recycle, so this is just an opportunity for them to do that.”
If you would like to find out more about the program, check http://www.tombean.net/ or call city secretary Cathy Pugh at 903-546-6321.
