Digital transition
If you can see and hear KXII-TV’s broadcast now, you're watching our broadcast through a variety of ways. Maybe cable, satellite, or straight over the air, but one year from now, the analog signal will be a thing of the past. It may seem like technical jargon, but Emi FitzGerald is here to sort it all out. Posted: 6:58 PM Feb 19, 2008Reporter: Emi FitzGerald Email Address: emi.fitzgerald@kxii.com |

The Digital TV Transition
February 17th, 2009, the era of analog broadcast television ended in the United States. While the change marked the end of the traditional analog method of broadcasting over-the-air television, it hasn’t signaled the end of free broadcast television. Your favorite broadcast programs and local television stations will still be available. Consumers that subscribe to a "pay" television service such as cable and satellite have not been affected by the switch, but if you received analog television over the air or via an antenna, you’ll need to take action to continue watching your favorite stations, if you have yet to do so already.
What You Need to Know
TV sets that currently receive programming through cable or satellite are not likely to be affected by the transition to digital.
However, TV sets that rely on "over the air" broadcasting with an antenna (set-top or rooftop) to receive a signal will be affected by the cutoff of analog broadcasts in 2009. You will need to consider one of the following options:
- Purchase a digital-to-analog converter box that plugs into an existing television. The boxes, which are expected to cost between $50 - 70 will be available for purchase in 2008. Beginning on January 1, 2008, U.S. households can request up to two coupons valued at $40 each. Each coupon can go toward the purchase of a single set-top converter box that will allow you to continue watching FREE "over-the-air" television on an analog set.
- Subscribe to a cable, satellite or telecommunications service provider if all desired local broadcast stations are carried by that service.
- Purchase a new television set with a built in digital tuner.

The sound on kxii is not as good since the convertion to digital.Like when we watch american idol,we could hear the singers, but we could barely hear the band. I have talked to 25-30 other people, and they say the same thing. Sometimes the sound volume goes way up or down by itself, our you just can't hear the background music like you should.Hope you can get this problem fixed, I don't have this problem on the other channels.

I need to know where to point my antenna or the degree, went to the map but it really did not help, said we did not have a tower here, but I know we do because my new converter has worked. Now it is not picking up but a very weak signal. william

It's not that DirecTV won't carry KXII or other local stations on their service, the truth is Texoma locals and DirecTV can't agree on the fee to carry them on DirecTV. So until DirecTV coughs up more money or our local stations accept DirecTV's offer....DirecTV customers LOSE.

You can pick up KXII in HD and standard def with an antenna. We'd be glad to help you further if you'd like...Thanks for checking us out online! -Staff

I live in Madill right near KXII's transmitter, the digital signals are so strong my hdtv wont pick up the 12.1, 12.2 or 12.3, however I can get KTEN 10.1, 10.2 10.3 great. Is there any way to fix this tried everything. "He can try a channel 20 trap, which is a band stop filter for our current digital signal. This would reduce the KXII digital signal level going into his television. In a year we will be converting our digital signal to channel 12, which would require a channel 12 trap. He might check with Radio Shack in Madill for one of these." -Randy Wells, KXII engineer

'Rabbit ears' antennas are not very effective on the UHF signals that HDTV uses. The present analog TV uses VHF signal and the antenna is completely different. In fact it is much smaller and on most so called 'rabbet ears' antennas it is only a loop or twisted pair in the center of the antenna. The so call 'ears' are for VHF reception. Hope this helps.
