DENISON, TX - After a Sherman woman abandoned her newborn in a dumpster last week, local hospitals say there's been an increased interest in the Safe Baby program.

However officials at Texoma Medical Center tell us there's been some confusion between Safe Baby, which was founded due the Baby Moses Law, and SafePlace, partly because both use similar signs.

Here's the difference:

A Safe Baby site is one where babies 60 days or younger can be dropped off by a parent.

A SafePlace provides access to immediate help and resources for all young people in crisis through a network of sites sustained by qualified agencies, trained volunteers and businesses, so not all Safe Place sites would be appropriate to leave a newborn.

TMC is a registered provider for both Safe Baby and SafePlace.
