April is Autism Awareness Month

DENISON, Tex. - One in 150 children have a disorder that doctors and therapists say often goes un-diagnosed. We're talking about autism and April is Autism Awareness Month.

Demi is a four-year-old child with autism. She sees Occupational Therapist Janis Square three times a week.

Square says autistic children lack necessary motor and communication skills, which is why therapy is so important.

There are lots of signs to look for, but Square says it’s not about trying to find autistic traits, it’s about knowing and understanding that the disorder is out there and that these children are important.

Square says, "This is a disorder that needs intervention and these kids are our future, so it’s a big deal."
