McALLEN, Texas (AP) - State health officials today confirmed the first death of a Texan due to swine flu -- plus it's the nation's second swine flu death.
Also, one of the biggest school districts in Texas -- Fort Worth -- has decided that classes will resume Friday, instead of being called off until May 11. The district has about 80,000 students.
As for the second death, authorities say the woman -- who was in her 30's -- lived in Cameron County, along the border with Mexico, and had other, chronic health conditions.
The Texas Department of State Health Services says the woman died this week.
Last week, a toddler boy from Mexico City died at a Houston hospital.
-- The El Paso County district clerk is suspending passport processing services at the courthouse for three weeks over concerns about swine flu. The suspension comes less than a month before U.S. citizens are required to carry a passport or passport card to return to the U.S. from Mexico.
