KINGSTON, OK – A Texoma school district will be giving out H1N1 immunizations later this week.
Kingston Public Schools in Marshall County tells us they have been allotted 600 does of "FluMist" - the H1N1 nasal spray vaccine. The district has had at least one confirmed case of the swine flu and says it has averaged about a 15 to 20 percent drop in attendance because of sickness since late September.
School administrators say the absences continue to maintain steadily with more than 100 students out each day, and now they are focused on informing parents about this voluntary vaccination opportunity.
The H1N1 vaccinations are completely voluntary. The 600 doses will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis. The vaccines will be handed out from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday. Grades pre-k through 5th grade will be taken care of at the elementary gym, and grades 6 through 12 can get the vaccinations at the high school gym.

Most newly diagnosed patients with the blood cancer multiple myeloma had a very strong response to an experimental oral drug being developed by Takeda Pharmaceutical Co when given in combination with standard treatments, according to data from a study presented on Monday. Overall, 94 percent of the 62 patients in the Phase I/II trial had their cancer respond to Takeda's MLN9708 taken twice a week in combination with Celgene Corp's Revlimid and the corticosteroid dexamethasone. The rate of those who had either a complete response or very good partial response was an impressive 76 percent, researchers said.
Sometimes there's only one thing that works to bring sanity back into my life, energy back into my soul, and balance back into my body--and that is a walk in the woods. It doesn't have to be a perfect day or the right season, because it's not about being entertained or impressed. It's about finding and re-finding peacefulness and focus.
