DENISON, TX -- October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Grayson County Health Department is doing its part to help women maintain their health. All throughout Friday, they gave out free mammograms with help from the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Health department officials say this is a great opportunity for women to get tested and take preventative steps, especially if they wouldn't be able to afford the screenings otherwise.
"I think it went wonderfully, we had at least 35 participants and they're taking advantage of at least being offered this service, so we like to see great participation, we are excited that everyone took advantage of this great opportunity," Amanda Ortez at the Grayson County Health Department says.
Ortez says they will offer more opportunities for free mammograms later this year as well.
