Should Grayson Co. inmates get H1N1 vaccine first?
Grayson Co., TX - Texas remains one of the states with the fewest H1N1 vaccines. But how would you feel if an inmate in prison received a vaccination before you did?

The fact of the matter is, flu vaccines, by their very nature, are "experimental." By this I mean that it is up to the researchers to predict the possible strains of flu for an upcoming season, and then to create a vaccine from those strains. However, sometimes a particular strain never appears, and at others, it mutates into something completely different from the strain individuals are vaccinated against. So, by their very nature, ALL flu vaccines are experimental.

Why can't Texas get enough flu and swine flu shots? All you hear on the news is how kids from Oklahmoa got shots today. How does OK have sooo many and Texas don't?

The first shot given to inmates should be the last shot! Why dont the government just wipe for them too. keep holding the inmates hand and he will be a good boy or girl. get real people go work in a jail then talk to me

Shades of Stephen King !!! It may not sound very supportive or politically correct - but let's innoculate those that are at risk first in the public - not in the jails. Offenders have too much given to them now.

Texas has not allocated any H1N1 vaccine to prisons at this time. Prisoners are not a priority group to receive the vaccine and will not be vaccinated ahead of the general public. Given the limited national supply, Texas is initially targeting priority groups most at risk. Pregnant women are one of those groups. There are pregnant women who are incarcerated who need the vaccine to help protect their unborn children. Health care providers who serve pregnant women in prisons have requested vaccine from the Texas Department of State Health Services. It is unclear when the state will be able to fill those orders given the limited national supply of the vaccine. don't you know why they need to give these jerks shots. its because their jail is in such bad shape that it leaks when it rains so the lowlifes inside might get sick. there are working people whose homes leak and have problems and they can't even get the shots. if jails would keep up the maintaince on the buildings they would be in need of new ones all the time. oh my use the money it cost for all the inmate shots and buy some caulking and fix the holes. but that would be to simple because some paid personel would haave to "step away from the donuts" to dob the leaks. come on america wake up and smell the coffee and send these low lifes to a deserted island and let them "root around" when they get "swine flu". but then that would be inhumane to treat the prisoners that was for they have more rites that working people do.

First, the visitation at Grayson County Jail is "no contact". There is a barrier of a wall and window between the inmate and visitor and conversation is had with a phone on each side. It is just my opinion but I think that all county personnel who have contact with the general public should be vaccinated. High risk Joe Public should be vaccinated, and all other public servants. If there is anything left over, prioritize who gets it in the jail. There are so many people who are only in jail for a few days because they either bond out or have sat out fines. What a waste to start out with providing them the vaccine. And those who I first listed to have first options for the vaccine can refuse it if they wish.

No way will I take this shot nor will my family. I certainly do want the inmates to get it first. Anyone who is pushing a shot especially anyone in the government...it can't be good. The 1990 page Health Bill is another thing that will be shoved down our throats

Wow. Maybe I should commit a crime and land myself in jail in Grayson County so I can get the vaccinations I need! This is ridiculous. I work TWO jobs. I am a law abiding citizen. I have mediocre health insurance that's just good enough to pay for these vaccinations, but can I get them? No. Why? Because our CRIMINALS should get them first. God forbid an INCARCERATED CRIMINAL get sick while in jail! I have severe asthma and allergies and to be turned down in several locations for not only swine flu vaccinations, but the regular flu shot too, infuriates me. This country sucks sometimes.

The shot is cheaper than a hospital stay. We have them locked up and we have to care for them. We can't turn them loose, we would have a crime pandamic then instead of a flu pandamic.

A question for those who suggest that the vaccine is too experimental to consider getting. How so? The seasonal flu vaccine has been available for years & the H1N1 vaccine is no different. The nasal stuff is kind of new, but the shot is pretty much the same stuff they always inject people with. Now you can argue that flu vaccinations in general are bad, but I don't think the science supports that assertion.
