ARDMORE, OK -The City of Ardmore is now slated to get a brand new, state-of-the-art cancer treatment center.
The Ardmore Chamber of Commerce Foundation, along with the Mercy Memorial Health Center, announced its partnership for a new cancer care center Tuesday.
The new facility will be built just east of the Southern Oklahoma Medical Plaza. The chamber foundation is funding the $9 million construction project, and Mercy Memorial will lease the building and run the radiation and chemotherapy services.
The new center will be replacing the current cancer center that administrators say is outdated and in need of renovation and will keep local patients from having to commute more than 60 miles to the nearest cancer treatment center.
"We want to be able to provide that locally, when they're sick and they're scared, they need to stay home and be cared for by their local hometown hospital," Mindy Burdick, president of Mercy Memorial, said.
The new cancer care center is expected to be open by the end of 2010.
