Safe Family: Wet roads

With rain in the forecast, wet roads are the focus of today’s Safe Family report.

Wet roads can create dangerous driving situations. On Wednesday alone, there were at least two accidents in our area where rain was a factor.

Remember to slow down and stay alert on wet roads and to maintain proper following distance.

Under-inflated tires and worn out treads can increase your chance of hydroplaning, so check your tires and make sure they are ready for the rain.

Law enforcement officials say the best way to insure against a rain related accident is to avoid the situation all together

"We ask that you don’t go out, if you can avoid it. Wait till the storm passes, but if you are caught in it, slow down. Vehicles can hydroplane at high speeds, causing a dangerous situation,” Lt. Bob Fair of the Sherman Police Department says.
