SHERMAN, Tex. ― Bridge repair on U.S. Highway 75 and Travis Street up to FM 1417 are causing some lane closures, and as we have seen in the past in our area, that can lead to some dangerous situations. Josh Stevenson has more in our Safe Family report.

Highway construction zones are some of the most dangerous areas on the road for drivers and construction workers, but the dangers of driving through these areas can be decreased by following some simple guidelines.

"Be aware of your surroundings, watch out for construction, and slow down when you need to," TX-DOT area engineer Kevin Harris says.

A new pavement rehab project is underway in Sherman.

"The project will run from Travis Street down to 1417 by our office here," Harris said.

The project will run through February and will involve some lane closings. TX-DOT engineers say you can stay safe by slowing down, paying attention, and planning for a longer commute time.

"We’ve got two really heavily traveled highways here, so it’s going to pose a little bit of a slowdown, so people need to be aware of what’s coming up. Be aware of the closure ahead of them, plan for it, and slow down through the construction zone," Harris says.

The construction is scheduled to run through at least February 2009.
