It’s National Playground Safety Week, and our Safe Family report is on keeping your kids safe while playing on the equipment.

Children fall all the time, but in order to break those falls experts say a soft surface should be placed underneath the equipment.

Parents should also make sure there is not any broken material in or around the playground. Rust and bolts are a good indicator the playground needs some work.

And when it's warm outside, touch the equipment first. Those metal bars can get extremely hot and could burn or blister the child.

"Over 200,000 injuries are related to playground injuries and a third of those are simply from falls our children have on the playground. So we really need to be cautious of our children out there on the playground equipment,” Carolyn McFarlind with Consumer and Family Sciences says.
