In today's safe family report,
Each year Americans are seriously injured by burns... Especially at home.
Hot water along with other hot liquids and steam can cause many of these injuries.
When you are in the Kitchen be sure to roll up your sleeves... To prevent clothing from catching fire.
Also... Be carefull when touching anything that could be hot.
To avoid scalding burns in the bathroom...
Make sure you know what temperature your water heater is set to.
The safest temperature is right at 1-hundred and 20 degrees... Or just below the medium setting.
Another tip... You can install shower heads that sense how hot the water is... Shutting off the flow if a burn is likely.
If you receive a burn ....
don't put ice... Butter or lotion on the burn as this could make it worse.
Finally if the burn is swelling... Or goes completely around a part of the body call your doctor immediately.
