The federal government is announcing a giant recall this afternoon of more than 2 million cribs. The recall involves 7 different companies and more than 2-point-2 million cribs. 27 children have been reported injured.
The cribs were all sold between 2000 and 2009, a majority of them have drop down sides which can fail and lead to babies becoming entrapped, falling out of cribs and even suffocation.
Consumers are encouraged to get free repair kits from the manufacturers to immobilize the drop sides.
The C-P-S-C says the new mandatory standards will be in place by the end of the year. If you can afford to do so, get rid of your crib if it was part of this recall or has a drop side, And if you're in the market for a new crib... stay away from cribs with drop sides.
