The Denison Yellow Jackets will try to win the Axe for the third straight year when they host the Sherman Bearcats on Friday Night.
The district championship will be on the line when the Jackets and Bearcats square off at Munson stadium. Both teams are 8-1 overall and 6-0 in district play.
For Denison, a district championship has been somewhat expected. They return many players that helped them reach the district title a year ago. Sherman has taken a different path. Preseason expectations on the Bearcats were mixed. Sherman made a last minute coaching change after Drew Young left for Durant. Gary Kinne came in and quickly put a contender on the field. After a season opening loss in Lake Dallas, the Bearcats have won every game since.
This is the second consecutive season that these two teams have decided the district championship. It is the 111th meeting between the two schools. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm at Munson Stadium in Denison.
