DFW Impacted by Delta Cuts

9-8-04 -GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) Delta's money-saving retreat from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport will reduce passenger choices at one of the nation's busiest airports.

Delta Wednesday announced that as part of a restructuring plan, it will cut daily flights at DFW from 256 to 21, shifting jets to Salt Lake City and Cincinnati.

Airport officials say Delta's move will reduce overall DFW departures by 21 percent, as the carrier drops the North Texas airport as a hub.

Delta overall is cutting up to 7,000 jobs including about 2,000 at DFW, which is the main hub for American Airlines.

Some airline industry experts believe that even with Delta's pullback, American won't be able to use its dominant position at DFW to raise fares.
