9-9-04 – Johnston County Sheriff’s Deputies have found the suspect in an early morning homicide. At about 2:00 a.m. Thursday, 40-year-old Julie Cecil was shot and killed inside her sister’s home on Highway 78.

Authorities say Cecil lived next door to her sister and went to her home during a domestic dispute between Cecil’s sister and her sister’s boyfriend. Agents believe Jerry Lee McKinney shot Cecil during the dispute. He fled the scene in his motorcycle, but crashed. A passer-by found him several hours later, with severe head and internal injuries. McKinney was flown to an Oklahoma City Hospital, where he is in critical condition.
