PARIS, TX - A Lamar County inmate who stabbed a jailer with a crudely made shank back in March pleads guilty and agrees to a life sentence.

Lamar County District Attorney Gary Young tells us 33-year-old Jeffrey Lee Rogers pleaded guilty last week to aggravated assault on a public servant and agreed to the sentence, which was the maximum he could have received. Young says it will be stacked on the previous sentence of 38 years Rogers was serving for armed robbery.

Young says Rogers is believed to be a member of the white supremacist Aryan Nation. He will not be eligible for parole until he serves 49 years in prison.

Granted, this guy doesn't look too intelligent, but why would anybody plea bargain for a life sentence in a non-death penalty case?
