SHERMAN, TX - A severe thunderstorm that knocked KXII-TV temporarily off the air blew down power poles and power lines throughout Sherman, leaving around 3,000 people without power.

The KXII Weather Team says a severe thunderstorm, possibly a microburst, with wind speeds reaching 48 mph and pea-sized hail came through Sherman around 4:30-4:45 p.m., knocking down power poles and power lines in many parts of Sherman.

Here's what we know so far:

-Loy Lake Rd is shut down from Highway 82 to Sara Swamy Dr due to power poles snapped in half and down power lines

-The Popeye's Chicken in Sherman at Highway 82 & Loy Lake Rd has power lines and power poles down in its parking lot

-Many traffic lights are not working, including Loy Lake and Hwy 82. We're told all the lights on Texoma Pkwy from Midway Mall down to Walgreen's are out. Signals south of Taylor/Grand are working.

-Many business signs have eletrical wires sparking near Texoma Parkway and Taylor St

-From reporter Maddie Garrett at the Texoma Chapter of the American Red Cross on FM 691 in Denison:

The Red Cross's HAM radio tower snapped and fell around 4:15 p.m. Monday due to sudden strong winds. The storm knocked over the tower, which is about 50 feet tall, and then fell onto power lines connected to the Red Cross building located on FM 691 in Denison.

Red Cross director Sharon Watson said they heard the loud crash and figured it was trees falling over.

The Denison Fire Department responded to make sure the building was safe and there were no fire hazards. ONCOR electric also came out to cut off all power so they could begin work on the fallen radio tower.

The HAM radio crews will then be able to safely take apart the tower. Watson said no one was injured in the storm, but they will also check for damage to their roof.

The Red Cross also said they had been thinking about shortening the tower because it was on an elevated hill to begin with.

More on the power outages at Loy Lake & Gallagher from reporter Maddie Garrett:

4 power poles down. This is a major transmission line. Knocked out power to customers on Texoma Pkwy and east of US Hwy 75. High winds also knocked down power lines in central and south Sherman, as well as the downtown area. Those power lines interrupted communication between Sherman Fire and Police. They've since switched to an emergency generator so there was no loss of service.

Sherman Fire repsonded to over 30 calls, most of them concerning downed power lines. No injuries have been reported.

ONCOR crews are out working at this hour. They say all power should be restored by 10 p.m.
