ARDMORE, Okla. -- The Ardmore Family Shelter kicked off Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a campaign at the Ardmore Police Department.

This year's theme is "Violence is not OK". Shelter staff spent the day tying purple ribbons on Ardmore police cars on Monday hoping to bring awareness to the problem.

Throughout October, they will also visit other local law enforcement, who are usually the first on the scene of domestic assaults.

"The PD is the first on the scene. They come out and call us, and we can speak with the victim and make sure they have all the info they need," explained Misty Qualls of the Ardmore Family Shelter.

The shelter will also visit local businesses to spread awareness of domestic abuse.
