9-15-04 - DALLAS (AP) A 12-year-old Mesquite, Texas, girl missing for eleven days is now back in Texas after being found safe in Oklahoma City.

Police found Jami Hicks about 1:00 a.m. Wednesday at a motel in northeast Oklahoma City. She was taken to a local hospital for a checkup, then returned to Mesquite and is now in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Her stepfather, James Hudachek, died just after noon at an Oklahoma City hospital from what police say is an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police say they heard a gunshot as they approached the motel room and the girl then came out of the room. Hudachek was found inside.

Mesquite police say they were contacted this morning by the girl's mother, Angela Hudachek. She says James Hudachek called her early this morning, told her where he and her daughter were and to come pick her up.
