LOVE CO., OK-- A 28-year-old Love County woman and mother was pulled from the shores of the Red River, Sunday.

Authorities believe she died trying to save her kids.

Crews hit the water again Sunday morning after hours of searching Saturday for the missing woman, near Jack Rabbit Island.

"We've got several boats in, we've had people swimming, dragging the water by foot. It's been a non-stop effort since we started," Love County, Undersheriff Jason Bone, said.

Authorities from the Sheriff's office, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Thackerville Fire Department, scoured the area, beginning at 7am Sunday.

Around 1pm, they found the body of 28-year-old Natachia Payne of Marietta underwater, just across the banks, from the last place she was seen.

"Her kids were swimming, they got into trouble, she went in to save them, got them saved, and then she got into trouble, and nobody could get to her," Undersheriff Bone, said.

Although Payne, did swim there often witnesses say, the constantly changing current and elevation levels, made swimming conditions, nearly unpredictable.

"Underneath the surface of the water is always changing. Some of these people that have been out here on the river for years, they're having trouble, they're getting their boats stuck here and there," Thackerville Police Chief, Brandon Stockard, said.

Searchers say the water where the victim was found, was approximately 12 feet deep, and while it may be a popular spot for outdoor activities, authorities don't recommend people swim there.

"The river is great for fishing, but as I said before, it's the stuff that you can't see below the surface of the water that makes it dangerous for swimming," Stockard, said.
