Pipe Bomb Explodes in Sherman

Video will be available shortly.

9-16-04 - The cause of an overnight blast in downtown Sherman has attracted the attention of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. They’re investigating what witnesses describe as a pipe bomb, which exploded outside the rear doors of Haring Office Supply in the downtown area.

People heard the sharp report of a small explosion around 2:30am in the 100 block of Travis Street. Later, the store manager found the remains of the bomb. He described it as a 12.5 inch by 1.5 inch galvanized piece of pipe with caps on both ends and powder in the middle.

The bomb did little damage to the area behind the store. Although authorities would not comment on the case, the store manager told First News that police believed a similar, but smaller pipe bomb was probably used to destroy an air conditioning unit last Monday behind the Fallon building, which is less than 20 feet away.
