Prominent Geologist Remembered

9-20-04 - ARDMORE, Okla. (AP) A memorial service will be Saturday for long-time Oklahoma geologist and art benefactor James Max Westheimer senior.

Westheimer died Thursday. He was born in Marietta and graduated from Stanford University in 1932 with a degree in geology. He later worked with Lloyd Noble and became the first president of the Noble Foundation.

Westheimer was a founding trustee for the Charles B. Goddard Center and was president of the Oklahoma Arts Institute.

The memorial service will be Saturday afternoon at 2 at The Goddard Center in Ardmore.
