GRAYSON COUNTY, TX - Three people are dead after a fiery head-on collision on State Highway 11 between Luella and Tom Bean south of Sherman.
DPS says 32-year-old Jesse Mitchell and 28-year-old Sean Songer, both from Ector, were driving north on State Highway 11 in a pickup when they tried to pass another vehicle. 50-year-old Gregory Pruitt was in the southbound lane and swerved to the right to avoid hitting Mitchell. That's when they both hit head-on at high speed, flipping the pickup truck. Both vehicles exploded and were fully engulfed in flames.
A witness says she immediately got out to help and got others to stop and try and find a fire extinguisher. But that's when the two vehicles exploded and were engulfed in flames. A DPS trooper was on scene within minutes.
"We're going to go back and look at the vehicles the best we can and identify everybody, at some point in the future our accident reconstruction team will come out and do a scaled diagram of the accident and draw out exactly what occurred," said DPS Trooper Mark Tackett.
Highway 11 was cleared around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
