SHERMAN, Tex. -- Five people at two apartment complexes on FM 1417 awoke Tuesday morning to find their cars had been broken into overnight.

Authorities say two iPods, two stereos, and other items were taken.

Some cars were damaged in the process.

Officers say living at an apartment complex can make you a target, but there are ways to protect your things.

"Make sure you don't have expensive valuables in plain sight. That’s key. If they don't see anything and the car is locked, they won't waste their time," says Sgt. Bruce Dawsey of the Sherman Police Department.

Police say these burglaries are most likely related.
