Water isuues in Bonham

BONHAM, Tex. -- All classes in Bonham were cancelled Friday morning after the city was without water because of repairs to a water line, but officials say that now everything should be coming back online.

Bonham city officials say the work on the line was supposed to be completed this morning around 5 a.m., but when they woke up they got an unexpected surprise.

City officials say the crews were installing a valve that would allow future transfer of water from older lines to new lines and into the cities new water treatment plant, which is scheduled to be opened up at the beginning of next year.

When officials were alerted of the emergency, they say they notified all primary customers such as the prison and the school district and let them know the situation.

That’s when school officials cancelled classes for the day.

City manager Corby Alexander says the work is vital for the future of water in Bonham. They just couldn't get the work done on time.

"Our plan was to do that in the dead of the night so that nobody would notice, and we just weren't able to get it done or the contractors won’t be able to get it done as quickly as we anticipated," Alexander said.

Alexander says work on the line has been completed and the water should be up and running by 12:30 p.m. Friday.
