10-6-04 - Three days after they died in a motorcycle wreck in Texas, Jim Bob Thompson and his wife Linda were laid to rest in Marietta. Jim Bob served the city as police supervisor, while Linda was the city clerk.

Hundreds of friends and family of the couple poured into Marietta's First Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon to pay their final respects. The husband and wife were remembered as caring, kind, and compassionate - a pair with a deep love for the community, and a passion for their positions as city employees.

The Thompsons were an annual toy drive that collected gifts for underprivileged children during the holidays. Those involved with that event said the drive would continue this year, in their honor. Organizers haven't yet picked a date for the toy run but say if you would like to help out with this year's event in honor of the Thompsons, you can contact organizers at 580-276-5896.
