BRYAN COUNTY, Okla. -- One man was flown to the hospital on Monday after u-turning in front of an 18-wheeler on Highway 70 about a mile east of Durant this afternoon.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials say a white truck, driven by Gary Acosta, 42, of Durant, had pulled over on the shoulder. When the 18-wheeler behind him slowed down to go around, Acosta u-turned in front of him.

Acosta was life-lighted to OU Medical Center with head injuries.

The semi was going about 30-miles and hour on impact, but that driver was not injured.

"What the truck driver did probably saved this guy's life," said Scott Hampton of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The driver of the white truck will be cited for causing the accident.
