Wounded Soldier Coming Home

Video will be available shortly.

10-6-04 - A soldier from Fannin County wounded in Iraq this summer will make a hero’s return to Trenton this weekend. Bruce Himelright was the only American survivor after his patrol came under fire in June.

The Navy veteran of four years joined the National Guard recently and was sent to Iraq in January. He was on patrol with two other soldiers in late June in the Iraqi city of Balad, about 85 miles north of Baghdad. The soldiers came under fire, leaving Himelright wounded and his two comrades dead. He was wounded in the hip, but his mother believes his faith in God saved his life.

This weekend folks in Trenton will hold welcome home celebration for him in front of their veteran's monument. The celebration kicks off at 5 o'clock.
