Update: Pocket parks

A local non-profit organization is making sure children in our area have a place to play.

Denison Pocket Parks' takes empty lots and turns them into playgrounds. Now they need the community's help through funding to create these parks. On Saturday, the group held a fundraiser in Denison, selling plants, seeds and bulbs to raise money to build the playgrounds.

Rhonda McClure is the Director of Denison Pocket Parks. She says, “This is our first time. Hopefully it will be an idea that will spread through the community to help keep the area pretty and beautiful.”

The first park will be located at 1315 W Gandy Street in Denison. The directors want to make sure there a public playground within safe walking distance of every child in Denison. We think a central park and playground will help revitalize the older part of Denison and recreate a sense of community within our neighborhoods.

Down with the "Historic Downtown Denison" billboards. Up with the "Vacant Lot Capitol of Texas" billboards.

There were small parks like this within 4-5 blocks of the houses where I grew up. I can't imagine my childhood without those parks. Families/Adults met each other and everyone watched out for everyone else's kids too. I hope this provides the same enjoyment as well as security to the neighborhoods where they are built.

So where's the park going to be, at the sale location? Why only one? Not very well explained "story". My 7 year old tells more complete stories.

Great Idea, I hope it works out. But; badly written intro to the story. The story opens talking about playgrounds being "everywhere" then suddenly there are not enough of them. Weak
