Homemaking Mogul Heads to Prison

10-8-04 - ALDERSON, W.Va. (AP) The federal Bureau of Prisons confirms that Martha Stewart has reported to a West Virginia prison to begin her five-month sentence for lying about a stock sale.

A statement says she arrived at the prison camp at 6:15 am, Eastern time. Stewart had until this afternoon to report to the prison.

A Web site run by Stewart features an "open letter" from her, saying she reported there this morning.

She says her lawyers will continue to appeal the court decision. But, she tells readers she's decided to serve the sentence now to "put this nightmare behind me as quickly as possible."

She says she looks forward to being back at work next March and thanks her supporters for their "continuing encouragement."
