Sales tax election in Calera

CALERA, Okla. -- The City of Calera is hoping to improve traffic safety. Voters are set to decide if they want a half-cent sales tax to help pay for a traffic signal along Highway 69/75.

City officials say there have been multiple traffic accidents on that stretch of road. Many times those accidents have been deadly.

They say it's especially difficult for drivers to cross the highway going to the east and west sides of town.

"Hopefully we can cut down on fatalities. We need people to at least have a chance to cross the highway safely to do whatever it is they need to do, not only for people in Calera but all over this area," Calera council member Vicki Barkley said.

The election is scheduled for November 13th.

Overpass is the only logical solution but what else would we expect from Calera, Bryan County, & Oklahoma. Another stop light on 69/75 makes a much sense as a screen door on a submarine. We already know this from the great Choctaw Nations gong show in front of their freakin Bingo hall. Can a brother get an overpass? Sorry folks but another stop light is just plain stupid.

I also agree that something needs to be done But I don't think lights is what is the only option. For one thing, adding lights will cause problems because the service road is too close to 69/75. 2nd. adding an bridge(s) would be better and it will serve Calera for years to come even as they grow. I have never understood, (other then cost)why they just don't build bridges over the hwy. No one who drives the Hwy wants to see another Stop light on 69/75
