Unemployment Rate Goes Up in OK

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Recently released statistics show the
state's unemployment rate rose slightly in October as hopeful job
seekers continued returning to the labor market.

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission reports the state's
nonseasonally adjusted jobless rate rose to 4.4 percent, up
from 4.2 percent in September.

The number of unemployed grew 3,800 to 75,600. The state gained 600 jobs in October, but that wasn't enough to counter an increase in the number of people available for work.

The labor force grew by 16,000 to 1.72 million in October.

Despite the increase, the state unemployment rate remains below
the nation and the region, and economists say the overall picture
is one of consistency.
