Flu Price Gouging

Video will be available shortly.

10-21-04 - Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott sued two flu shot distributors on Thursday amid claims they hiked the price of the hard-to-get vaccine. Wilson N. Jones was one of three hospitals who complained to the state after exorbitant prices.

The suit filed in Houston accuses the companies of offering vials to hospitals in Houston and Dallas as well. The lawsuit names ASAP Meds of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and
Dubin Medical of San Diego, California.

Neither company immediately returned calls for comment. The companies also allegedly demanded cash on delivery.

Wilson N. Jones was quoted prices anywhere from $400 to $850 per vial. Those vials usually sell for $60 each. WNJ wanted vaccines for their employees who have direct contact with patients. In the end, they were able to obtain vaccines from the Grayson County Health Department.
