DURANT, Okla. -- Two airplanes will soon help patrol the southeastern Oklahoma skies. Members of the Civil Air Patrol brought two Cessna airplanes to Eaker Field in Durant on Tuesday afternoon.

The Civil Air Patrol is a civilian organization, an auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. Members give seminars on community service for children and adults and use the planes in emergency situations like surveying flooding or wildfire damage.

Members plan to present the partnership charter to the Durant City Council on Tuesday night.

If I recall correctly, the CAP also assists in search & rescue when light planes go down. And as wooded & rugged as southeastern OK is, additional eyes from the air are very helpful. Kudos to CAP!
