Racing Community Rocked by Crash

Video will be available shortly.

10-24-04- A plane owned by a NASCAR sports organization crashed while en route to a race today, killing all ten people on board. Federal officials say two pilots and eight passengers died in the crash.

A spokesman for the funeral home where the bodies were being taken says the victims include the son, brother and twin nieces of Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick.

Hendrick owns the teams of Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Terry
Labonte and Brian Vickers, who competed in today's Subway 500 at
Martinsville Speedway in Virginia.

A spokesman says NASCAR learned of the plane's disappearance
during the race and withheld the information from the Hendrick
drivers until afterward.

The Beech 200 took off from Concord, North Carolina and crashed
in the Bull Mountain area about seven miles from the Martinsville airport.
