Mom & Son Thankful This Christmas

Video will be available shortly.

12-7-04 - A Van Alstyne mother gave her own kidney to save her son’s life earlier this year. But she defied odds to do it.

A kidney donation might not seem that uncommon if Hazel Massey was her son's biological mother. But she actually adopted Cris Massey three years ago. At the time, she knew he suffered from Cystinosis, a condition that causes kidney failure, and one he’d had since he was 2 years old.

It only affects 400 people in the US and has no cure. But as Cris was placed on a transplant list, doctors realized his mother was a perfect match. Doctors performed the transplant operation in March, and since then, he has made an amazing recovery.
